Celebrating 70 years at OLGH As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish, we are reminded of the words of St. Paul to the Christian community in Philippi to rejoice always in the Lord for all the things that the Lord has done. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4: 4,9). In February 1950, Archbishop Moses E. Kiley announced the approval of a new parish on the land owned by the Archdiocese on the southeast corner of North 41st Street and West Good Hope Road. Father Joseph Fischer was appointed the first pastor as the parish was incorporated on April 2, 1952. In October 1952, Archbishop Muench blessed and laid the cornerstone of the church and the school. The powerful words proclaimed to the ancient community of Philippi are once again being fulfilled in our own time as we seek to do what we have received and heard and seen throughout the ages. For seventy years, Our Lady of Good Hope has served the needs of the people on the north side of Milwaukee, Brown Deer, and Glendale. The parishioners continue to witness to their faith by living out our mission statement: “Called by Christ, we worship together and serve the world.” This weekend we truly rejoice in the Lord and honor the enthusiasm and memory of the dedicated clergy, parishioners, and staff who have faithfully served the parish and surrounding community. We have been truly blessed. Working in collaboration with St. Bernadette Parish and St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, together we are developing a strategic plan in order to continue vibrant Catholic parishes on the northwest side of Milwaukee. May the Lord bless our ministries and efforts in the years to come! ~ Fr. Greg
